London: 2,000 years of traditions and history
The geographic, economic and cultural capital of Great Britain – London is the third largest city in Europe.
Its streets are closely intertwined with medieval and Gothic cathedrals, traditional terraced houses, known to all from the films about Sherlock Holmes, as well as modern centres with skyscrapers. For its diversity, London attracts millions of tourists every year.For more than 2 thousand years of its history London has been rebuilt several times. Despite this, many architectural monuments from the Middle Ages and later periods have been preserved here. It is worth visiting such popular places as the castle-prison Tower of London, Westminster Palace and the Abbey, Trafalgar Square and St Margaret's, Westminster. To draw up an interesting route, use the city guide or map.In London the first underground project in the world was implemented, the first lines being launched more than 150 years ago. In addition to the metro, the city's transportation includes bus routes, trams, above-ground trains and a cable car that connects the two banks of the Thames. Public transport fares are some of the highest in Europe. Buying an Oyster Card or renting bicycle will considerably reduce the cost of travel. In addition, the city's places of interest are London taxis, or old-fashioned cabs, which are worth a ride at least once.
